Prairie Women Club

Prairie Women Club

Saturday, February 11 - 1 pm (this class is full)
Monday February 20 - 10:30 am
Saturday February 25 - 10:30 am

You are invited to join a unique monthly club that will take you on a journey back in time. Gather together as the "Prairie Women" did, and hear anecdotal stories about their quilt making, and what daily life was like for those who traveled by wagon train on the Oregon Trail, to the lives of quilter's during the Civil War, and the years of women's suffrage for equal rights. Not only will you learn how our quilting ancestors created quilts by "Making-Do" with what they had, you will be invited to do so yourself!!!

We have held our first two journeys and what fun we have had! This a great time to sew and visit with others who love history and quilting! Want to join us? We still have room in our Monday and last Saturday of month classes! Pre-sign up is required - $40.00 for 6 months. Call (503-837-0676) or email (ladiesofliberty@hotmail.com) the shop and sign up today!

Friends ~ Quilts ~ Reminiscences

When I first came to Independence three years ago to open Ladies of Liberty Mercantile I met a wonderful lady named Joan Wynn! She was so happy that a fabric/quilt shop was going to open in her home town. She made me feel so welcome.
She joined one of my first clubs. She made one of the ladies on the shop quilt for me. She encouraged me to teach a class at the guilds quilt college. She alway made me smile.
She lost her battle with cancer on Christmas Day.
Joan - you will be missed.

Meet Mattie Dry Goods

Ladies of Liberty Mercantile has a winning name for our shop rat! Congratulations to Donna Hefty - winner of a fat quarter bundle!

Here is the winning name: Mattie Dry-Goods.

Donna also included a story about Mattie with her entry!

Hello,

I recently came to live at the shop. Let me introduce myself.

I am Mattie Dry-Goods. Mattie is short for Material.

My maiden name is Dry.

My married name is Goods.

I have lived in Oregon my entire life, I like rain showers.

I collect thread pieces I find on the floor and enjoy looking through quilting books and magazines.

I am more active at night and can be found looking at fat quarters, some times they come undone!

I look forward to meeting my customers and welcoming all whom come into my store.
