Now it needs a name - so I will take names from you all (until January 1st) and the name that I like the best will become it's name! The winner will receive a fat quarter bundle. Send your name suggestion to ladiesofliberty@hotmail.com

Block of the Month

We are starting a new $2.00 block of the month club in August with the theme of 'Songs of the Civil War'.  With this BOM you get a history - pattern - embroidery pattern - and a 16th piece of fabric to start the block with. This is our third BOM - Underground Railroad was the first - Gone with the Wind was our second and now Songs of the Civil War. This is a 12" block and it is always ready for pick up on the second Saturday of each month. Make the block and bring it back to hang in the shop for the month to get your next block. It is fun to see what everyone has made - the same block can look so different with different fabrics! Sign up today and join the fun!

What has Ladies of Liberty been up to?

We have been busy in the shop! Now I am trying to get time to keep up with my blog! Wish me luck!! Since February we have done a lot - I'll high light just a few for you.

In March I taught six classes at Rich's Sew and Vac - that was so much fun and I made some new friends and got to see some old friends as well! We made a star table runner using the Jo Morton "no waste" flying geese.

In April we offered our popular "Doll making with Erika" class again and had a full house of doll makers! Here is a photo of my two favorite girls with the dolls they made. So cute! We will be offering this class again September 17th.

We also attended the Mid-Valley Quilt Guild Quilt show at the Polk County Fairgrounds. What a great show. We sponsored an award for a quilt the we feel represents "Ladies of Liberty" and it went to a quilt that was all made on a treadle sewing machine! It was beautiful!

In May the Pin Cushion Pals of the ASG dropped by for a shop visit. What a great group!

In June we made "Huswifs" with Nancy Fresen of Primitive Patchworks. We used Maggie Bonanomi's pattern. What a great class - one we will do again for sure.

In July we did some hand piecing with Nancy Frisen again. We learned how to make hexagons by hand! She has a great pattern she designed called 'Civil War Hexagon Star Quilt'. I expect to see many wonderful quilts made using this pattern. We carry this pattern in the shop.

We also have our Third Annual Patriotic Quilt Challenge going on right now in the shop. Stop by and vote for your favorite.

Along with all this we still had our $1.00 a block of the month with our 'Gone with the Wind' theme. We have had fun with that. This one is done in July and we will be starting a new block of the month with a 'Songs of the Civil War' theme in August. This one will have a embroidery pattern to go along with it - twice the fun!

We have really have a good time at our Breakfast Applique Club every other Wednesday morning! We meet at 8 am to applique or do hand work and visit (ok - eat donuts too!). This is a great group of ladies - come join us!

We are working on a Land of Lincoln Block of the Month as well. It is almost half done now and is coming together really nicely.

Our $5.00 Block of the Month club has taken off thanks to some great ladies! We are doing the Windham Sampler block from Clothesline Quilts. It is a small block and very cute. We have also added a birthday group within this club - where you give everyone a piece of your fabric and they use it and more to make you a block for your birthday. We are having so much fun with this! Thanks Colleen for taking the lead on this.

Of course there is always my Civil War reenacting keeping me busy in the summer as well - be sure to check that out as well (http://www.nwcwc.org/)

As you can see we have been busy at Ladies of Liberty Mercantile!
